Shit, this site is almost 20 years old. I got crowdkilled at the last show I went to by a kid that wasn’t born yet when this thing originally launched. Anyway…. a few updates. If you’ve been to the site before, you’ve probably noticed that the look is a little different than it was for most of the last decade. It’s finally been updated to be mobile friendly and get some newer design elements. No one gives a shit about CSS here but there was quite a bit of overhaul, with more happening incrementally. Not quite continuous integration, but just getting some cleanup and decent PHP linting was good enough for this site for now.
The Zine section has finally been fixed. Not sure when it broke over the years, but it was probably due to a security update that effectively hid the files. No new zines or anything have been added, but the downloads work and newer galleries have been set up so you can get an idea of what you’re about to click into, as opposed to the dumb links that were up before. A few things like the Son of Dog comic have been re-packaged for easier downloading. If you have any zines, catalogs, weird shit to add, let me know!!!
The Video section used to have a video player with videos from the Louisville Hardcore YouTube account. That… has also been broken for a long time. It relied on a plugin that is long since deprecated. So there’s a new React based app that works independently of the site, it just needs some integration work. The new page/app pulls in far, far more than just the videos from the LHxC account, and breaks out a few categories to click through. For now, there’s Live videos, Interviews, Music Videos, and more. Eventually this section will get some new features like a search but just getting something up again is the current goal. The new video stuff should be live this week (March 4-8).
The flyers section is next up. There’s 450+ flyers to add to the existing gallery, but instead of just doing that, the whole gallery is going to get an overhaul. The idea is to have a larger display and better tagging/titling, all of which should be a lot better experience. You should be able to search things like a band or venue name, or even a year.
After that… not sure that anyone under 35 would give a shit but maybe re-introduce the forums? The 502 Shows Discord seems to be doing a pretty decent job of holding digital conversations, maybe the world doesn’t need a Smack Yacker 5.0 (or a Wack Yacker). It’s been asked for though, so there’s a Trello card for it. We’ll see what happens.
