Palomino Record’s biz boost

The Courier Journal ran an article this week about Louisville neighbors Palomino Records, who over the past year or so have been churning out TONS of releases for the bands that this site tries to cover. It’s a shame that they didn’t mention any specifics (labels/bands) about what the ‘new market’ is that has helped Palamino not only stay in business but think about expanding, but I guess it wasn’t really needed for the article. Anyway, give a shout out to Noise Pollution for one for leading people towards the business and helping get a lot of records from this town pressed over the past year.

Nearly 500,000 45-rpm records fill the shelves in thousands of boxes — it’s the vinyl version of the last scene in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Xerxes announce Full 2012 US Tour Dates w/ Code Orange Kids

Xerxes announce Full 2012 US Tour Dates w/ Code Orange Kids

Xerxes Debut Full Length Album Produced by Kevin Ratterman Out Winter 2011/2012 on No Sleep Records!

Following news of the recording of their upcoming debut full-length album with Kevin Ratterman (Coliseum, My Morning Jacket), set for a Winter 2011/2012 release on No Sleep Records, ferocious Louisville-based hardcore band Xerxes are announcing upcoming US tour dates, and first ever full US tour, taking place in early 2012 with main support from friends Code Orange Kids (touring in support of their new “Cycles” 7″ in Mayfly Records).

Although not currently releasing venue information, the band has confirmed the complete itinerary for the 41-date trek, which includes every major region of the country, stretching along both coast lines, and stopping in almost every major city in the continental United States along the way.

Featuring artwork by Adam Vass of La Dispute, the new Xerxes album is rumored to feature 12 new songs by the band (11 tracks + a B side) and will be supported by a series of non-stop US and worldwide tour dates, all of which to be announced shortly.

Xerxes took shape in early 2009 in Louisville, KY with a sound that channels the energy and passion of mid-90’s originators You and I and Saetia, while adding the more upbeat and brutal thrash mentality of contemporaries such as Trash Talk and Ampere, making for a sound that runs the gamut of blast-beat aggression and emotional rumination.

Coliseum - Parasites

PARASITES EP 12”/CD – In stores Nov 15th:

Our new 8-song Parasites EP on Temporary Residence Limited will hit store shelves this coming Tuesday, November 15th. Hopefully there’s still a great indie record store near you that will stock it, unfortunately Louisville’s beloved ear X-tacy just closed their doors after 26 years. For those of you without record store access, you can order the 12″ and CD direct from Temporary Residence or from Shirt Killer. Shirt Killer is also offering a combo with the 12″/CD and Parasites shirt here.

We’re celebrating the release of Parasites this weekend with our appearance at Louisville’s second annual Cropped Out Festival. We play on Sunday with the legendary Scratch Acid and our literal and figurative brothers, Young Widows. This is very likely our last show for many months, after this we’re going to take an extended break from touring and begin work on our fourth album. Get tickets, set times, and all other info for Cropped Out here. Black God is also playing the festival on Saturday.

RYAN PATTERSON: APOCALYPTICISM art prints, shirts and more:

My friends at Static Age Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio were kind enough to invite me to have my first solo art exhibition over the course of October. The show was titled “Apocalypticism” and featured a lot of new design work and paintings as well as record covers, posters and other work I’ve done over the years. I did a handful of new prints for the show and an Apocalypticism t-shirt, all of which are now available to order online from Shirt Killer. The two new 18×24″ screen printed posters I did the show (Holy Cosmos and You + Me) are among my favorite work that I’ve done, expertly printed by Static Age’s in-house print shop Southpaw Prints.

That’s it for now, thanks!
